Terrain Tiles Part 2 (Trenches)

So the initial discussion about terrain tiles was with regards to trenches (as I'd previously made a few blocks). This then evolved into how you'd be able to make modular terrain with these blocks and normal terrain blocks without making those blocks excessively thick for what they need to be.

As such I have come up with a couple of options I think could work:

OPTION A "DOWN, UP, UP"

So this design is fine if the first tile is a standard tile then further trenches behind (or 2 regular tiles then this trench tile). But in larger table setups might not fit in as well.
Normal Trench Tile
So this is what a "normal" trench tile looks like - obviously this varies for "2nd line" tiles as well as corners - I can also include mortar pits or bunkers.
In this first concept, the side facing the enemy would be at standard tile depth of 1" and the other side would be at 2" (trench depth). This means there is only one area that needs real care with regards to matching edges and that is int he slope up to the trenches.
Option A
As long as the start of the slope starts at the same point (at the edges) this shouldn't be an issue. The rear area behind the trenches being extra thick makes it easier with regards to adding extra features.

OPTION B "DOWN, UP, DOWN"

This option is better in terms of material price per tile as well as flexibility in larger games (if say there is "normal" terrain to a rear area.
Option B Overview
Again using the "standard" trench tile set-up you can see the slopes leading up to all of the trenches. This gives more of a feeling that when constructed, the materials removed were used to build up the walls (more realistic?).
Option B
So what do you think? I've seen and completed designs which are all at the increased depth but a lot of this is about how it interacts with the other bases in a modular setup so I'm split.

Actual Splurge

So, the weirdest thing happened to me tonight, my dad told me he loved me. I'm a bit scared to be honest, its not happened in many a year! It could be bad news or it could be that I told him about how shit my head got last year - woops.

With respect to that time, I messed a lot of things up around then so for those that it applies to - in fact anyone I've done something stupid to; here is a very public apology.

But the future is bright - finally moved out from home, got a job and some plans (not enough really but oh well :p).

So now for the weekend ahead; I'm going to pick up my next commission from home to get worked upon. Watching the rugby, few bevvies at pub and maybe a boardgame if got nothing else (cheap weekend :p).

So as such; Boardgame anyone?

Trench tiles

So finally got the first two trench tiles done and dusted along with a group of barbed wire sections and they made their eagerly anticipated debut and the Lancaster Wargames Xmas game. So here they are (Figures painted by Dan Johnson).

Something very different . . .

Didn't think I'd be doing this but its awesome . . .  in fact its an alliance of awesomeness . . . no wait thats not quite right - its AXIS OF AWESOME.

Basically many of you may have heard some of the classics like "four chord song" as performed on no less than British Breakfast television no less.

But they've got a new album out and frankly go and give them a go; if you're into classic comics/cartoons (I'm thinking He-Man, Thundercats, Spiderman) especially the theme tunes then you'll love Skeleton Man.

Oh and probably prepare to be offended at some point.

Anyhoo . . after that random interjection in our lives back to regular business. This weekend I am going to be working hard to finish off terrain for the christmas game at my club and as an extra motivation I'm going to do a how-to guide to making Barbed Wire. And if people like it then I will look at Vlogging it. So comment below and subscribe etc and it will make me work harder, make more scenery and think of more. And if you're really interested I am free for commissions - ust give a message and I'll run through some ideas with you and expand the repertoire - (I'm thinking Star Wars Defensive works?).

Tutorial Introduction

Hello Everyone.

So next weekend I'm going to be posting my first tutorial on here :) And if it goes well in blog form I may well take the leap, borrow a camcorder and vlog it.

So anyhoo I shall be posting a step by step guide of how to make WW1 barbed wire sections which I'm hoping you will like.

Before all that I shall be posting my first post game of our clubs new season of bloodbowl. This is the 4th season (I think?) this has been run in a row and I've got a new team this year - Necromancers. I've been wood elves the last three years and ... well basically lets just say I can't roll dice. So you can enjoy the bloodbath as I hopefully scrape a result of some sort.

Well see you soon :)
